In 2006, Microbia PE formed a multi-year partnership with Tate & Lyle, a global leader in food and industrial ingredients, to develop and commercialize fermentation-derived renewable ingredients. As part of the agreement, Tate & Lyle invested $7 million to acquire a minority shareholding in Microbia PE. In addition, Tate & Lyle will invest a further $13 million in research and development over a period of five years.

This collaboration brings together Microbia PE's expertise in delivering highly efficient microbial manufacturing technologies with Tate & Lyle's process development and manufacturing expertise, including their low-cost fermentation infrastructure for commodity and specialty products. By combining our strengths, we have the ability to offer customers complete, integrated raw-materials-to-consumer product solutions, while also reducing dependence on traditional petrochemical raw material sources.

In addition to the products we choose to commercialize together, we are actively seeking to forge relationships with organizations that have an interest in developing and commercializing innovative fermentation-based technology for the next generation of renewable ingredients and chemicals.
